Legendary Outlaw Billy Joe Shaver Brings Texas to Buffalo
By Mark Lennon
Billy Joe Shaver will be playing The Sportsmen’s Tavern Tuesday July 8 at 8p.
Any classic country junky has heard Honky Tonk Heroes, Waylon Jennings’ landmark album or heard Johnny Cash’s “I’m Just an Old Chunk of Coal.”
Shaver’s career has been the stuff of legends, hitchhiking to Nashville in 1965, Jennings cutting the Shaver classics to receiving the Americana Music Award for Lifetime Achievement in Songwriting in 2002 and being inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame. Shaver’s latest album, Long In The Tooth is out August 5th on Lightning Rod Records.
Produced by Ray Kennedy and Gary Nicholson, Long In The Tooth features guests Willie Nelson, Leon Russell, Tony Joe White, Shawn Camp, Jedd Hughes, Joel Guzman and more.
“This is the best album I’ve ever done,” Shaver says. “It’s just dangerously good. I expect it to change things and turn things around the way Honky Tonk Heroes did.”
If it lives up to that statement, lock up your daughters and leave your husbands at home, we are in for a wild ride.
Visit Billy Joe Shaver online and on FB. Do yourself a favor and buy Long In The Tooth, Available everywhere 8/5/14.
If you are in Buffalo, NY – we suggest you get tickets now!
