Van Dyke Brown has released the video for “The Fair,” off of his debut album Holy Libel.
Van Dyke Brown is the cosmic folk alter ego of musician, filmmaker, and novelist Scott Honea. In the spirit of Lubbock multi-hyphenate Terry Allen, Van Dyke Brown weaves folk, country, and pop/rock elements into thought-provoking, often personal, character-based story songs. Utilizing classic country instruments like pedal steel and mandolin in a slightly more modern setting, Brown’s songs bridge the gap between classic country and today’s indie folk rock.
Influenced equally by recent artists like Iron & Wine and Dave Bazan and legends like John Prine and Townes Van Zandt, Brown’s approach always keeps ear-catching melodies at the center of every song. Born in Corsicana, Texas, Brown drifted to California and back down to Austin before settling in Arlington, Texas in 2016. Recorded in 2019, Holy Libel marks his debut.
