Gram Parsons / Nashville Country Jamboree / Reviews

Nashville Country Jamboree

When I first came across this album, I figured it would be a cheesy novelty record. With a name Nashville Country Jamboree (touted as Nashville’s First Country-Rock Group) and one hell of a lame lookin’ album cover, it didn’t seem promising. But, looks can be deceiving. Turns out, this record’s a rare gem.

Upon first listen, I thought I was hearing a Gram Parsons bootleg. It’s straight up International Submarine Band – cool 60s country rock.

On the cover of the record, it says that Nashville Country Jamboree is comprised of members of Barefoot Jerry and Area Code 615 (who were the studio musicians from Dylan’s Blonde on Blonde and Nashville Skyline).

This record turns out to be a one off project. It has 20 songs, each one as cool as the next. Despite having the word Nashville in the title, the album turns out to be more of that Southern California Country Rock sound.
