A list of songs to sulk to

What better way to start a weekend in Los Angeles than with a list of Country songs about heartache and disappointment….

“Cold, Cold Heart” by Hank Williams Sr.

Here, Williams tells the story of being in a relationship with someone who is emotionally damaged from their past and doesn’t know how to love. That’s a lot of heartache in one song.

“Love Hurts” by Gram Parsons and Emmylou Harris

“Why She’s Acting This Way” by Townes Van Zandt. Here’s the story of a girl whose playing emotional games by breaking up, threatens to leave but doesn’t until she destroys him.

“I Threw it All Away” Bob Dylan. Dylan tells the story of lost love and regret.

“I Must Be Somebody Else You’ve Known” by Merle Haggard. The Hagg tells the story of being the type of person who couldn’t commit, but then winds up falling for someone who breaks his heart. He couldn’t believe she’d actually leave him and that he’d actually be upset.

“My Old Friend The Blues” by Steve Earle. Basically no matter what happens, we’re destined to disappointment and misery.

“He Stopped Loving Her Today” by George Jones… now if this ain’t a sad song, I don’t know what is.

“Walk Out” by Justin Townes Earle. Justin deals with his heartache by telling the bitch to leave.

“I and Love and You” The Avett Brothers. Here’s a song about being broken hearted after an inability to commit and choosing to run away from the pain.
