5 Artists to see in LA this Fall

Glen Campbell, Justin Townes Earle, Kris Kristofferson, Live, Merle Haggard, The Low Anthem — By on September 17, 2011 2:41 pm

1. Glen Campbell

Campbell, whose battle with Alzheimers sends him on a farewell tour, will be performing at Club Nokia on October 6.
2. Justin Townes Earle
I saw JTE in February at the Autrey Museum.  He is by far the most exciting americana artist around today.  His recent album, Harlem River Blues is my pick for the AMA album of the year award. He will be playing at the Music Box in LA on October 28.

2. Steve Earle

A legendary Texas singer/songwriter, Earle proved with his new album I’ll Never Get Out of This World Alive that he is only getting better with age.  Earle will be performing at the House of Blues in LA on Sept. 27.  Since Justin will be in LA the night before, it’s possible he may show up to his dad’s show. How cool that would be.

4. Kris Kristofferson and Merle Haggard

Two of the greatest country song writers of all time, together for the first time to blend a bit of Bakersfield and Texas country. They will be playing at the Greek Theatre in LA on October 7.

5. The Low Anthem

With their 2011 album, Smart Flesh, I got a very 1960s americana/ boroque pop Van Dyke Parks feel from this band.   They will be playing in LA at the Troubadour on Oct. 5.
